In the last months i have been working on what is probably one of my largest software developments. A Game :) .
The game itself is a bit like the game risk, but with a more complex set of rules to give it more ambience. The game is being developed by a group of 6 for a scholl project on a course about user interaction. The teacher of this course is a remarkable person, and the other day he droped me a book called “A theory of fun for Game Design” by Raph Koster. This is one of the best books I’ve read so far because it gives a nice background on pure theory and some nice ideas on the DO’s and DONT’s. If you’re a game developer wanna be give this book a try.

The game itself is almost ready for beta release. But there is a BIG problem. The graphics on the game are mostly “stollen” from images.google.com and some of them have copyright. So if there is a graphics artist out there that wants to produce some GPL images…… please contact me so that i can one day put this in portage :) .

  1. Isn’t game development great? I’m writing a multiplayer turn-based football (soccer) game that will hopefully go into Portage. It was actually my university dissertation though sadly it wasn’t finished in time for the deadline. Your game looks really nice there, I wish mine looked as good as that! Hopefully it will eventually. Out of interest, what languages/libraries are you using? Oh might check that book out too, sounds good.

  2. Chewi: The project had some constrains about running on any arch/os so we could use html+js or flash or java for the client. We went with java as it was the one that seemed more suited for the job. We tought about using SWT but in the end went with swing as we did not think that we were going to use any of the extras that swt gave us, and because of the extra software need on the client side.

  3. Bote um pouco mais de arte em sua vida!!!
